Wheat's Louisiana Tigers
As an "unofficial" impression, many members
of the 12th Virginia Infantry, Company B have elected to occasionally
portray the Louisiana 1st Special Battalion ... Wheat's Tigers, Company
"B". These notorious rough-and-ready fighters from the Pelican
State earned their nickname by being uncompromising and unflinching in
battle and elsewhere. These men earned a proud legacy, and we invite you
to learn more about them by following the links to units dedicated specifically
to them on our links page. We do them only occasionally, and only when
historically appropriate. (The unit was disbanded in 1862 shortly after
Wheat's death following Gaines Mill.) The thing most fun about this impression
is the effect that donning a Tiger's uniform has on even the mildest-mannered
private ... the effect is extraordinary!
